THE PRACTICE

Where Change is Nurtured

Welcome to Salt City MFT, a boutique psychotherapy practice offering systemic treatment with the convenience of modern technology. We use a secure video platform to meet you in a private, comfortable location of your choice!

Salt City Marriage & Family Therapy, PLLC was founded by Meaghan Malaney. As an experienced licensed Marriage & Family therapist with more than a decade in the profession, she wanted to create a practice that aligned with her passion for systemic thinking. This passion started in the Marriage & Family Therapy graduate program at Syracuse University. Interestingly, Syracuse used to be a major producer of salt and lovingly known as the Salt City. What started as a novel interest in a new paradigm and place, developed into a lasting love with systemic thinking and the city of Syracuse. The practice was named in homage to this intertwining of learning, love and community.

In choosing Salt City MFT, you'll be working directly with Meaghan Malaney. You'll receive her expertise in and dedication to facilitating a useful therapeutic process.

PSYCHOTHERAPY

Practicing From a Systemic Perspective

Salt City MFT works with individuals, couples and families with various presenting issues and treatment desires  (e.g., anxiety, depression, mood dysregulation, relationship and family dynamics, adapting to life changes, self exploration, etc.). This practice provides treatment from a systemic approach, meaning that change is viewed in the context of systems (like a family, or work place) and patterns (the routine and often predictable ways we engage with the world). Meaghan Malaney has engaged in the post-graduate program at The Bowen Center for the Study of the Family. Your provider will listen closely, ask questions, offer feedback and collaborate to facilitate the change process.

For those interested in seeking out of network reimbursement, a Superbill is provided upon request to submit to your insurance provider. Check with your insurance provider to determine your out of network reimbursement rate.

Psychotherapy fee: $200.00 per session.

THEORY

A Cornerstone of Quality Treatment

BOWEN THEORY

Bowen theory is one of the most comprehensive theories to understand human dynamics. It was created by Murray Bowen, M.D., via his research on the family as a unit to understand human dynamics and treat mental health. This theory was revolutionary during its development in the mid 20th century. It remains relevant and in use today because it views the family as an emotional unit and uses a systemic perspective to understand complex dynamics. Within this theory an individual's functioning can't be separated from the dynamics of the system. Processing material from a systemic perspective is powerful and provocative, and can facilitate increased awareness and challenge participants to engage more functionally.
